BEAUTIFUL LITTLE FOOL by KK Hendin

June 2015

Displaying BeautifulLittleFool_SM.jpg

Eighty seven billion dollars.
One dead New York business mogul.
No heirs.
No wives.
No relatives.
Eighty seven billion dollars.
Not hers yet.
He doesn’t deserve them.
He doesn’t know what to do with them.
She does.
She always has.
Eighty seven billion dollars.
He’s overwhelmed.
She’s prepared.
That will should have had her name.
Not his.
Eighty seven billion dollars.
His looks are a bonus.
Her looks are her weapon.
He’s fighting a losing battle against his heart.
He doesn’t know it yet.
Eighty seven billion dollars.
She gets everything she wants.
He’s what she wants.
Love has nothing to do with it.
To get to where you’re going, sometimes you need to step on a few people to get there.
Good thing her heels are sharp.

3.5 Stars
Let me first say, I know we shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, but I totally did with this one. This cover is so striking, so eye-catching, I had to read it!
This book is a contradiction for me. I had a hard time deciding where to fall on the star rating. In the end, I had to rate without emotion, otherwise, this book would have been less than 3 stars for me.
It must also be said that the author clearly warns the reader that this is different from what they have read from her before. With that in mind, I am not opposed to reading other works byt this author. In fact, I'm pretty curious now.
Beautiful Little Fool is incredibly well written. It’s clean and on point, it flows pretty well, albeit, there were a few times when it was dry and I got a little antsy for it to get moving again.
I certainly can’t fault the author on her character development. Each one had their own distinct part to play in the book, and I thought they were well cast for their roles. In this vein however, lies the main problem. I absolutely, irrefutably, irrevocably (yes, it deserves those big words!) HATED Cedar. Now, in the author’s mind, perhaps this is a success, I’m certain she wasn’t attempting to get me to like her. However, I don’t want to read a whole book about someone I so vehemently dislike. It left me feeling disappointed, a little angry, and desperate for a book that would erase all that negativity.
If I were to rate this book based solely on the feels, it would get a pretty low rating. However, it seems unjust to do that and completely overlook the fact that it is so well written. I think it’s possible that the author would see my emotional status at the end as a success. But, it didn’t work for me. That being said, I imagine there are a lot of people who would be completely fascinated with this book. It’s different, something new, and completely unexpected.
It would be a hard one for me to recommend, but that’s only because I don’t know how this would be received from others. I would however, start a discussion about it, interested in hearing other’s opinions, and perhaps, those who would like the book will become aware of it.
Definitely on the fence. 3.5 Stars
KK Hendin’s real life ambition is to become a pink fluffy unicorn who dances with rainbows. But the schooling for that is all sorts of complicated, so until that gets sorted out, she’ll just write. Preferably things with angst and love. And things that require chocolate.
KK spends way too much time on Twitter (where she can be found as @kkhendin), and rambles on occasion over atwww.kkhendinwrites.blogspot.com.

I don’t know how a book can be cute and hot at the same time, but holy cow, Laureline Page and Katie McGee know what the hell they are doing! This book is incredibly fun, I loved every minute of it! They’ve put their own little twist on a story line that’s been done and made it unique, almost exclusively because of the characters. They will suck you right into their world, and you’ll never want to leave.
Blake is one of the most complex heroes I’ve come across and he is so different, I was just entranced by him. He’s got the sexy alpha thing going for him, definitely. Then of course there is the sweet, cuddly side, while throwing in the hidden nerd and a little insecurity. I suppose there have been guys like this in other romance novels, but Blake ties it all up in a bow with his absolute naiveté. There were times when he was just so bewildered by the things he was feeling and things that Andrea called him out on. She gets mad at him for something and he is surprised because it wasn’t that he was being a jerk on purpose, he doesn’t know any better and can’t figure out why other people aren’t thinking like he is. It’s freaking adorable. He is sex on a stick for sure, but the whole package is what makes you fall for Blake.
Andrea is a spitfire. Her attitude is pretty hilarious at times, and at others, it made roll my eyes in exasperation. She clearly has a huge heart and incredible capacity for love, shown especially in her relationship with her sister. However, it was actually pretty refreshing to see her first reaction to Blake. She didn’t accept his assholery just because she was insanely attracted to him. She was willing to walk away from a person she didn’t believe had any decency, despite the money and his sexy ass. That was such a huge plus for her as a character. I respected her and as well as enjoying her sarcasm and wit. It takes a little while for her to be more open minded about Blake, but I truly believe that is because she sees some of her old self in him.
The banter between these two is fabulous. They both have a sarcastic wit that is sharp and funny. However, they can also be silly, giving the scene a really bright mood, putting a smile on my face.  It was incredibly entertaining and there were definitely moments when I laughed out loud.
These two also have an explosive chemistry that had me reaching for the ice water.  I hated for the book to end, but I really, really wanted to see Andrea and Blake get their HEA.
If you are looking for a really solid, great story that will make you laugh, smile, and just leave you generally warm and fuzzy, look no further! This is one of those books that I’ll return to again and again, when I need a ‘pick me up.’ 5 truly excellent stars!

Hard to Let Go on Goodreads

About HARD TO LET GO: Beckett Murda hates to dwell on the past. But his investigation into the ambush that killed half his Special Forces team and ended his Army career gives him little choice. Just when his team learns how powerful their enemies are, hard-ass Beckett encounters his biggest complication yet—a seductive, feisty Katherine Rixey. A tough, stubborn prosecutor, Kat visits her brothers’ Hard Ink Tattoo shop following a bad break-up—and finds herself staring down the barrel of a stranger’s gun. Beckett is hard-bodied and sexy as hell, but he’s also the most infuriating man ever. Worse, Kat’s brothers are at war with the criminals her office is investigating. When Kat joins the fight, she lands straight in Beckett’s sights . . . and in his arms. Not to mention their enemies’ crosshairs. Now Beckett and Kat must set aside their differences to work together, because the only thing sweeter than justice is finding love and never letting go.

  Hard Ink Series Trailer:

EXCERPT: Taking a deep breath, Beckett knocked on the door. No answer. He turned the knob, and the door opened. “Go away,” came a strained voice. Beckett poked his head through the opening. Kat sat in a ball in the corner, her legs pulled up to her chest, her arms hugging herself tight. “Aw, Jesus, Beckett. Really?” Her face was splotchy and her eyes watery, though he didn’t see any tears. Ten-to-one she was going through some adrenaline letdown right now, too. Which no doubt made it all worse. That shit could fuck you up even when you were used to how it left you feeling drained and shaky, by how all the stress you’d suppressed during the height of the crisis boomeranged twice over after the fact. He came into the room, closed the door, and turned the lock for good measure. And then he crossed to Kat, scooped his arms under her knees and behind her back and lifted her up against him. She smacked his chest. “Put me down.” “No.” He moved to the edge of the bed. “I don’t need this right now, Beckett. Put me down.” “Yes, you do,” he said, sitting on the edge of the mattress. He pulled her face in against his throat and smoothed her hair back from her cheek. She trembled against him, just the littlest bit, her skin hot to the touch. He pressed a kiss to her forehead and hugged her tighter. “You did good, kid.” Every one of her muscles went tight. Her hand fisted in his shirt. And her breath caught as she buried her face against his neck and shoulder. Then Kat burst out crying. And it was like being torn apart and put back together, all at once. He hated her pain, but he adored that she wasn’t hiding herself from him, and that she was letting him be there for her. He didn’t shush her, or try to talk her down, or encourage her to dry her eyes. To be sure, her tears were like daggers in his heart—they hurt like fucking hell. But the only way she was going to feel better was to let this shit out. Ironic realization for him—he did actually see that. But just because you could see what was good for others didn’t mean you had the first goddamned idea how to apply those principles in your own life. And that was a problem for another time anyway. What mattered right now was Kat. What mattered … was Kat.

Chapter One

Personal Concierge, to start ASAP (Boston Area)
I am a successful businessman looking for a wife. Due to a busy career and lack of energy or interest to devote to the process, I am seeking someone to assist me in my search. I am outsourcing the entire process, job to start immediately.
The perfect candidate will be assertive, with excellent computer skills and a knack for reading people. She—I am only seeking women to fill this position—will be expected to:

• Meet me, get to know me. Spend a week or so in my company to find out my interests, what makes me tick. During this time she will come to understand the type of woman I expect to fall in love with;
• Do all searching activities on my behalf including online, in real life, on social media, networking, and so on;
• Once possible matches are identified, provide me with pictures and, upon my approval, arrange dates for us to meet.

I am attractive and financially secure. I do not have trouble finding women who are interested in me. It is finding women that I deem interesting beyond the physical that is the challenge.
While this job can be done at home, I’d prefer that several hours a week be spent in my company in order to keep a firm handle on what I expect in a love interest. I will have private space available in both my home and office for the right person to work.
Income will be determined initially by the experiences the candidate brings to this project. Additional income will depend on the quality of women found to date me as well as how far the relationship(s) progresses—both emotionally and physically. We can discuss a specific payment schedule during the interview process.
Serious inquiries only.
