One
night, one time, nothing more.
That’s all it was supposed to be. They’d agreed their first night together
would be their only night together—and Minnesota Glaciers defenseman Dylan
Rylie was fine with that. Giant hickeys and claw marks on his ass had never
been his style, even if the very memory of Samantha Yates’s merciless sexual
energy gets him hard within seconds. He needs to focus on getting a better
contract, not mind-blowing orgasms.
One
night, one time, nothing more.
Fresh off representing the US at the Games and with nowhere else to play,
Samantha gave in to one night of frantic passion with the Glaciers’ brawny
hotshot. She couldn’t get hurt—not if she controlled the outcome. And she
planned to leave Minnesota soon, anyway. She didn’t expect to be recruited to
coach Dylan after they’d gotten down and dirty.
When brutal on-ice workouts lead to
kinky locker room sessions and “one night” falls by the wayside, Samantha
insists on keeping things casual, despite Dylan’s quiet hope for more. But when
Dylan goes down—hard—and his career is in jeopardy, Samantha is the first one
by his side. What will it take to keep her there after he’s healed?
If you like sports romance,
particularly hockey, then this is a really great book for you. But, even if you
don’t it’s a fun and sexy read.
Dylan is an excellent hero. He sexy,
fun, witty, focused, determined…etc. However, what really got me was two
things: 1. He was willing to do whatever it takes to succeed and this meant not
letting his ego get in the way. 2. He recognized that there could be something
special between him and Sam and didn’t dismiss it because it would interfere
with his professional goals. Not that that didn’t cross his mind, but I loved
that he was so willing to give it a try.
When Dylan is injured, I was blown
away with how he handled it. Working incredibly hard, but also being smart
about it. He is a very likable character, one you’d love to meet and either
fall in love with, or be great friends with, or both! He’s got the steamy side
down pat too, and there are some pages that burn.
Sam was a little harder for me to
swallow. If it weren’t for the way the author created Dylan, I’m not sure I
could have gotten over my irritation with her. She is super smart and talented,
she also has the drive that took her to the Olympics. The way she helps Dylan
improve his hockey game was interesting and admirable. However, I got so tired
of her attitudes. Yes, more than one. Her resentment towards those still
playing hockey, while completely understandable (the fact that men make millions
at certain sports and women can barely find a local league to play in is
ridiculous and just wrong.) makes her too harsh. She didn’t come off as
likable, someone I would want to be friends with. However, I looked for what
Dylan saw in her so that she didn’t take the book down. The other attitude was
her stance against coaching, just because it’s what her dad did. Her
perspective on life is skewed incorrectly that she is a very hard person.
I enjoyed a lot of their moments
together as a couple and I could see where they would succeed in making a
relationship work if Sam got over her hang-ups.
There are some super sexy times, some
fun and witty moments, and some really awesome hockey. Over all, I enjoyed the
book and would probably read more from this author.

ReplyDeleteI am a first time reader to your books. This book intrigued me because its a hockey romance which I am a huge fan of sports romances. Thanks for the review I will definitely be reading this one. Being a busy mom of two myself when do you find is the best time to write? Do you have a method?
ReplyDeleteThankfully, both of my kids are in grade school, so my writing hours are while they are away. But, I also write on a lot of weekends which involves closing my office door and enduring the "Hey, Moms!" that still come. :-) I also write with my earbuds in which blocks out a lot of distractions.
