Sin proves that passion goes beyond
smoldering desire when hearts dance to their own special beat.
Every
woman at the Devil’s Den strip club has a story to tell, and Macey Taylor is no
exception. Smart and self-reliant, she’s got a chip on her shoulder, a broken
heart, and no patience for a sexy new manager with an Ivy League pedigree and a
strict set of rules. Macey prefers to break rules, something she lets Joshua Camden
know from the start—even as he ignites a fire in her that goes beyond the
hottest club in town.
Joshua
is working the Devil’s Den for all it’s worth, learning everything he can about
the adult-entertainment game before investing in a place of his own. Macey is a
surprise: a woman as strong-willed as she is gorgeous. Joshua wants to get
inside her world, to see through her eyes. But he soon discovers that seduction
is a two-way street—and expecting redemption without risking his heart may be
the greatest sin of all.
Review- 4 Stars!
I’ve really enjoyed this whole series. The books are all standalones but it is really fun to read them in order, it give the characters have some more depth.
First, let me just say, this book is, melt your panties into a puddle, HOT. Violetta Rand knows how to write the steamy deliciousness! The chemistry between Joshua and Macey is off the charts, the sexual tension was filling the air around me straight off of the pages.
Joshua is divine. Seriously, that boy, I hate to say it, blows the sex appeal of Garrick and Craig out of the water. He’s got an Ivy League education, looks like sex in a suit, he’s open minded, wealthy, possessive, and loves hard. Joshua knows almost immediately that he and Macey have something special and he goes out guns a blazing to convince her to give them a shot.
Macey has a rough history, one that’s left her jaded and determined to protect herself from anything that could make her vulnerable. She is complex, confident and sure of herself, mixed with insecurity and defeat. She knows, almost from the moment she meets him, that Joshua has the ability to break through her walls.
Macey and Joshua are able to find common ground and a certain level of trust, because both of them have just been screwed by their significant others. Their relationship isn’t easy to maneuver with their exes both determined to get them back, and a guy with bad blood between him and Joshua is sniffing around Macey.
This author knows how to write characters that you love and hate. I was actually quite sorry to say goodbye to Macey and Joshua, but their HEA is sweet and left me with a smile.
There are two reasons that I couldn’t give this book 5 stars. One of the things I LOVED about this story was the way that Macey and Joshua handled being confronted with situations that could’ve been misinterpreted and given them reason to assume and run from the relationship. They stood back and looked at it objectively, seeing what is really happening instead of what the first impression makes it look like. So, when one of those situations is escalated, this time one of them is quick to accept what it looks like, without taking the time to see if there might be another explanation. After the other incidences, this didn’t seem as believable to me. It also tainted my opinion of that character a little bit.
The second thing is small, but enough that it bothered me. Wesley is Garrick’s best friend and he is a major douche. After reading Surrender, I just loved Garrick, so to see Wesley’s true nature in this book, it didn’t make sense to me. Garrick is supposed to be a good judge of character and a steady, good guy. It just didn’t jive for me, especially when Garrick doesn’t seem to take him to town over it. It’s clear that he doesn’t approve of Wesley’s actions, but I would have expected someone of his character to drop that monumental jackass.
Those things aside, there is a possibility that this book could end up on my re-read list, if I’m in the right mood. It was a really quick read, the story always flowing and keeping me interested. The Devil’s Den series books are smart, sexy, sweet, and intriguing. I recommend reading all three books!
