What an ending...I wasn't sure when I started
this book if I was going to like it. But it drew me in almost immediately. You
will be rooting for Elisa...
Elisa/Isa, I really liked her character. She is smart, funny and quirky. She has a bit of innocence to her and I loved how she would recite things when she got nervous.
But she is living on borrowed time. Her life has taken a turn and she's about to be deported back to England...to live with the ghosts of her past life. She needs to figure something out, but what? She needs to figure out how to stay in the US because this is where her life is, where her family is now.
Aiden Hale is barely surviving unspeakable memories. He's successful, but tormented by his past. When he stumbles upon a painting that mesmerizes him, he gets a feeling of calm. He needs to know who this woman is. She's becoming a fantasy and has brought forth a worldwind of emotions in him. Can he open up his heart to this woman? Can he let go of his painful past and move toward a better future or will he remain locked in his nightmare forever?
These two seem to be drawn together and an indescribable love affair begins. The push and pull of emotions and secrets they share was shattering. I enjoyed every moment they shared and my heartstrings were pulled when Aiden's past finally starts coming forth. This poor man is destroyed and tries to push Isa away, but he can't stay away even though he wants to protect her from himself. What I loved about both of them is their selflessness. Aiden would do anything to protect her and Isa would give up her happiness and dream to save those who matter most too her. It was a journey!
The author brings to light a major issue that many servicemen and woman suffer from. PTSD. She doesn't sugarcoat the effects that someone can experience. Nope...she shows you head on what some go through and the struggle to try to have a normal life. To have to be on guard 24/7 and the toll it takes...WOW
The ending is a freaking bomb...I kept swiping for more, but it never came. I need the next part of the story. I want my answers and I need to see where the author is going to take this. It could go so many different ways. The story will suck you in. You will fall in love with the characters and a few things will surprise you. I can't wait for more! 4.75 Stars!!
