REVIEW - 4 STARS
The Room Mate is the first standalone book in the new Room Mate series. This was a fun, sweet and sexy read. I enjoyed Paige and Cannon story a lot. This is only my second book by Kendall Ryan and what I liked about The RoomMate was yes it's a typical type of read, but with a different take. The Heroine is the older one and it's her best friends little brother.
Paige has been leaving by the book for years. She's got out of a bad relationship a year ago and hasn't jumped back into dating. She prefers to stay in on Friday nights to watch TV or just relax. One thing she is missing in her life...orgasams. She misses the companionship, but she's not about to jump on the dating website her best friend Allie keeps pushing. When Allie kind of tricks her into letting her little geeky brother move in with Paige, she's in for more than she bargained for. Cannon is no longer geeky oh no he's Dr. McSteamy! Can Paige control the burning lust in her? Or will she fall victim to his magic stick?
Cannon is trying to finish his residency, but a problem has risen. Cannon's problem...women! Every time he sleeps with them, they fall in love with him. The last girl went all fatal attraction on his ass and destroyed his apartment. With no place to live and really only the clothes on his back he has no where to turn. When his sister Allie tells him Paige has a room, he freezes. Paige? As in the girl he's been crushing on since he was fourteen. He's doomed! She's off limits, but she's also the dream. Can Cannon control himself or will he give into temptation?
Both Paige and Cannon had wonderful qualities...hardworking, loyal, independent, caring and family oriented. I liked that this wasn't your typical best friends little sister type of read. The reversal was a nice surprise. I liked that you could feel the sexual tension between them. It never felt forced or wrong, it felt right, downright steamy! The banter at times was funny and swoon worthy.
So my reason for not five stars. Allie...I thought she was controlling a bit. I didn't like how she went from hot to cold to hot. It seemed at times she was trying to rub things in Paige's face.
I also thought that it was just a bit too fast, I can't really explain it without giving away spoilers. I just felt the timeline could have been slowed down some.
Overall this is worth a read. Kendall does a great job with humor, steam and a bit of angst thrown together. I will definitely be checking out more in the series. 4 Off Limit Stars!
