Talk about a dysfunctional family, this is one for the books...LOL! Lies, Betrayal, Love, Lust, Enemies, Friends...A lifetime of this and it isn’t stopping anytime soon, its entertainment for them.
Paper Fools was previously released as Deer in Headlights book one of the Hearts and Arrows series. Staci Hart edited it and put a spanking new title and cover on...I love it!
Paper Fools is only my second book by Staci Hart and I really enjoyed everything about this book. It was different, unique and refreshing. It’s a book you want to check out, I am telling you!
So I confess, I got a little lost at the beginning trying to keep everyone straight just because I am not that up on Greek Mythology and Staci uses some nicknames, but I eventually got a grasp on it. What I really liked was how Staci took the gods and goddesses and made them modern. They kept up with the times, they evolved as one must do. She could have set this story back in the day, but she took it up with today’s drama which I think added to my enjoyment of the story. I am not one for historical romance...nope not my thing. Anyway, she gave each god and goddess a real personality, which I looooved! Can you picture it? A realm where all these good looking people mill about with some kind of entitlement.
So basically the premise of this is the Greek gods and goddesses get bored after being around for thousands of years and being immortal, so what do they do? They decide to play games with the hearts and minds of humans. They have battles and if they win their game, the other god has to give the winner their token(a favor). So it comes down to who is next in the game...Dita is on deck next. But who is her opponent? Apollo. The history between these two gods is not a easy one and the competition will be high. Dita(Aphrodite) never loses, especially with love, its her speciality and she is not about too lose. However, Apollo is bound and determined to win. He needs this win, he’s playing for something special, his love Daphne, and he might just have to get cutthroat. But will he?
Apollo and Dita must choose two humans. But they must choose wisely. Dita must make two humans fall in love to win. Apollo needs to keep them apart to win. Who will win?
Apollo has two good choices, but he eventually chooses Dean the guy who is a ultimate challenge. He’s the broody, sexy, talented rockstar who sleeps with any woman, even if they are attached to someone else, he doesn’t care. He’s a bit of a manwhore and he makes no excuses for it. He's emotionally unavailable, but there is more to Dean that unravels as the story goes on. You will eventually fall for him and he wins you over.
Dita chooses Lex. She is the shy, sweet, and artistic type. She’s also in a relationship that she’s not 100% into. She doesn’t love the guy, but there is something that is holding her back. She doesn’t let people in easily and keeps her heart surrounded. She's afraid of love and runs when things start to get tough, but Dean might just be the one to climb the wall.
I was rooting for them and I loved how everything played out. Staci took these characters and went to town with them. She gave awesome descriptions, made the characters complex and the storylines were just wow!
Who wins? Apollo? Dita? Lex? Dean?
Sex, Romance, Cockiness, Angst, Lies and Humor pretty much sum up this book. It was a delight to read and I can’t wait too see where Staci is going to go next. This would make a great tv show or movie, I can totally picture it. It was such a nice surprise to read something so different. Plus two stories in one...one with the humans and one with the gods. So creative and captivating. 4.5 Stars
