About FIRE IN YOU:
From the # 1 New York Times and International bestselling author comes a richly moving story about heartbreak and guilt, second chances and hope. Full of familiar, fan-favorite characters and no two people more deserving of a happy ending, Fire In You will burn bright beyond the last page…
Jillian Lima’s whole world was destroyed in a span of a few hours. The same night her childhood love, Brock ‘the Beast’ Mitchell, broke her heart, her life was irrevocably altered by the hand of a stranger with a gun. It takes six years to slowly glue together the shattered pieces of her life, but Jillian is finally ready to stop existing in a past full of pain and regret. She takes a job at her father’s martial arts Academy and she’s going out on her first date since a failed relationship that was more yuck than yum. Jillian is determined to start living.
She just never expected Brock to be a part of her life again. But he’s firmly back in her life before she knows it, and not only is he older, he’s impossibly more handsome, more teasing and more everything. And when he sees Jillian, he’s no longer capable of thinking of her as the little girl who was his shadow growing up or the daughter of the man who gave him a second chance at life. He sees the woman who’d always been there for him, the one person who believed in him no matter what.
Brock knows she’s the one he should’ve made his, and what begins as a tentative friendship quickly turns to red-hot chemistry that sparks a flame that burns brighter than lust. Falling for Brock again risks more than her heart, because when the sorrow-filled and guilt-ridden past resurfaces, and a web of lies threatens to rip them apart, the fallout could lay waste to everything they’ve fought to build together, and destroy the dreams of those they care most about.

This series got me started on Jennifer L. Armentrout books.
I’m so sad to see it ending!
Like all of the books in this series, Fire In You has the
perfect mixture of quirky humor, sexy times, and an intense storyline. It all
balances out.
This author is amazing in general, but, there are two things
she does that always blow me away. One is the depth and development of her
characters. Brock and Jillian are puzzles that we are putting together and as
each piece falls into place, the characters become more real. Every little
detail, habits, likes, dislikes, common speech, all the little things that make
people human. She is incredible at crafting characters. And whoa! Brock is
definitely super alpha with a fantastically dirty mouth. Swoon.
The other thing that always gets me is the way she writes
sexual tension. Holy cow. You could go the whole book without sex (it doesn’t!)
and you’d still feel like you needed a cigarette. It’s one of the things that
makes me love her mature YA romances as well. The steamy scenes aren’t as
descriptive and yet, I’m reaching for the ice water! It’s not easy to create
tension that thick, strong enough for the reader to be squirming and desperate.
You’ll be fanning yourself with this one!
This is a second chance romance and it’s actually a bit
tricky. If not done right, the way she set up this story, the reader might have
ended up really disliking Brock. But, even without his POV (which did bum me
out), he was expressive enough that after Jillian’s flashbacks and reminiscing
comments, I still got a good sense of how and why he was and more importantly,
how much he’d changed. Jillian too, had to develop in the right way. I love how
strong she became, despite her nagging vulnerabilities. I also loved that she
didn’t just fall at Brock’s feet when he showed back up in her life. She made
him prove himself.
Of course, it was great to see the other characters from the
series and catch up with them. I could read another book about each of them!
My only complaint (which almost NEVER happens with JLA
books) is that the ending was a little abrupt. The conflict of the book comes
to a head and things resolve, then boom. The book is over. I needed a little
more from the story after that. To believe that it wasn’t a happily for now,
but a happily ever after. Brock makes comments about wanting kids and marriage,
etc, but the book ends so quickly after the conflict that I felt like I was
left hanging. What happened next??? Even if it was only a couple of months down
the road, I needed more closure.
Overall, this was spectacular, just as every book in the
series was. It’s going right up on the ultimate re-read list!
