In a land ruled and shaped by violent magical storms, power lies with those who control them.
Aurora Pavan comes from one of the oldest Stormling families in existence. Long ago, the ungifted pledged fealty and service to her family in exchange for safe haven, and a kingdom was carved out from the wildlands and sustained by magic capable of repelling the world’s deadliest foes. As the sole heir of Pavan, Aurora's been groomed to be the perfect queen. She’s intelligent and brave and honorable. But she’s yet to show any trace of the magic she’ll need to protect her people. To keep her secret and save her crown, Aurora’s mother arranges for her to marry a dark and brooding Stormling prince from another kingdom. At first, the prince seems like the perfect solution to all her problems. He’ll guarantee her spot as the next queen and be the champion her people need to remain safe. But the more secrets Aurora uncovers about him, the more a future with him frightens her. When she dons a disguise and sneaks out of the palace one night to spy on him, she stumbles upon a black market dealing in the very thing she lacks—storm magic. And the people selling it? They’re not Stormlings. They’re storm hunters.
Legend says that her ancestors first gained their magic by facing a storm and stealing part of its essence. And when a handsome young storm hunter reveals he was born without magic, but possesses it now, Aurora realizes there’s a third option for her future besides ruin or marriage.
She might not have magic now, but she can steal it if she’s brave enough.
Challenge a tempest. Survive it. And you become its master.

REVIEW - 5 Stars
Sometimes, I am absolutely blown away by the creativity in
the mind of an author. Cora Carmack has always impressed me with her writing,
but Roar goes above and beyond. The story is incredibly unique, the idea of
storms as a living thing, and the world she builds around them is spectacular. The
way that Cora describes the people, scenery, etc, is so well crafted that it
came to life right before my eyes. Not only was she eloquent, almost poetic at
times, but the imagery was simply amazing. The pages turn themselves in this
book and putting it down to get anything done was quite a challenge!
Rora or Roar, as she is known for a lot of the book, is
strong is so many ways and she struck me as a warrior in her heart and mind.
However, she is also flawed, not only by her lack of magic, but by the
overabundance of emotion she carries inside her. This journey brings out all
sides of her personality and we watch her grow into the role she was born to
play, that of queen. At times, especially in her relationship with Locke, she
irritated the crap out of me. But, not only are we all immature sometimes, I
had to remind myself that she was only eighteen and had spent the majority of
her life in relative solitary. She never had the opportunity to learn how to
react and think in may social situations. Ultimately though, I loved her
character and every minute of her journey.
Cassius…good grief…I don’t know where to begin with this
guy. He is the epitome of the anti-hero. I didn’t know whether I loved or hated
him from one moment to the next and the whiplash was pretty severe. Yet, it kept
me on my toes and only made the story that much more interesting and
compelling. Calling his character complex seems like an understatement. I don’t
even think Cassius really knew himself either. But, the reality seems to be
that the darkness inside him is the dominant part, though I do wonder what we’ll
see from him as the series continues.
Locke is the more obvious hero to the story, though, in the
beginning, I wasn’t nearly as intrigued by him as I was by Cassius. However, as
the story continued on and I spent more time with him, he truly wiggled his way
into my heart and turned out to be awesome. Though, like Roar, he made some
really annoying choices in regards to her. Sometimes I just want to reach into
books and shake the characters until common sense show up in the pages! Those
moments are nothing compared to all the others though. His skills as a storm
hunter are fascinating, his chemistry with Roar is scorching, and his bravery,
love, and intelligence were written beautifully.
A book is never complete without a merry band of secondary
characters and the cast in this story is filled with variety. They are integral
to moving the plot along, but mostly, I just loved the sparkle they added.
I can’t recommend this book enough! It’s fast paced, fully
of intrigue, danger, action, drama, love, heat…etc. All the feels!!! I can’t
wait to see what’s next in the Stormling series!
Thank you so much! ~Jessica, InkSlinger PR
