SYNOPSIS

This book is aptly titled. From the
moment it starts, the story is fast paced and it keeps its momentum fairly
consistently throughout the story. Considering the subject is motorcycle racing,
it should be! It’s an intense read.
Kenzie and Hayden certainly come
from different worlds and the driving force behind their determination is miles
away from each other. However, they are both hard workers, extremely talented,
and not above seeking the solution to their triumph from each other. It’s clear
from the get-go that these two will eventually combust from the electricity
arcing between them, but they are stuck in the middle of a Romeo and Juliet
situation. So, what do they do about the fact that they are only at their very
best when they stick together?
There is definitely a plethora of conflict
in this story, it seems these two just can’t get away from it. And, it thwarts
them at every turn. Their teams are bitter rivals, a grudge against each other
so deep that their jobs are on the line for simply having a lengthy
conversation. The ties they have to their teams also make it impossible to walk
away.
Kenzie wants nothing more than to
save her family’s business, becoming a legacy and record breaker in order to
live up to her father’s history and expectations in the sport. Hayden is doing
his best to climb up from the streets and make something of himself. Then there
are the mysterious happenings that are endangering riders, the threat of
exposed illegal activities, and let’s not forget the over whelming desire that
almost consumes them when they are together.
There were a few times when all of
the conflict was a little overwhelming, there was so much of it at once that I
felt it weighted the story down and those were the rare moments when the story
dragged just a tad. Also, Kenzie’s internal conflict could get really repetitive
and it grated on my nerves after a while. I knew why she was struggling, and the
internal arguments with herself were sometimes unnecessary.
I definitely found myself rooting
for these two, hoping that they would find a solution so that they could have
it all. They both have dynamic personalities, the kind of people you are drawn
to and want to be friends with. The whole cast of characters really shaped the
book as well. The author does an excellent job creating depth and complexity in
each of them, with a little humor thrown in for good measure.
The ending was not typical, a “happily
for now” situation. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, I’m excited at the
prospect of more from these two. However, trying not to spoil the plot, I’ll
say, the situation with her dad bordered on unrealistic. I don’t know how to
explain it without giving it away! But, I just had a hard time swallowing his
influence, I didn’t feel like he carried enough weight to do what he did.
Furious Rush is on the might
re-read list for now, but it has potential to move depending on the rest of the
books that I anxiously anticipate.
