How do I describe Lili's
writing? Mind-blowing, jaw dropping, and spectacular! If you've read the
Gypsy Brothers series you need to read this. If you're like me I read
Cartel first, then GB and now this. Yes, I know what's going to happen,
but it's not stopping me...hell no I want to see it all unfold and of course I
have a twisted mind. I'm addicted....
Mariana is still a prisoner. A prisoner in life and in love. Dornan has been her salvation, but she's starting to see him differently. He's turning into something she doesn't recognize anymore. Does she still love him?
John oh John we all know his outcome, but the secrets he has start unfolding and I was a little shocked by getting to have is POV on things. He has been watching from a distance and has been yearning for Mariana, but you don't cross that line. Or do you?
Dornan is losing his light and is starting to change to the darkness. He's the guy you can't decide if he's crazy or if he's just putting on an act. I'm starting to see the Dornan from GB emerging and I'm starting to not like him. I can't decide if I want to kill him or love him....ugh!
This was intense, gritty and emotionally charging. As everything starts unraveling I am seeing why Mariana did what she did. I hated Dornan in Gypsy brothers, but then I loved him in Cartel because he was different. He was a monster in GB, but in this series he showed he had a heart. He was a half way decent guy. He was in love and he was obsessed and consumed by Mariana. Mariana was the same or felt the same but I can understand how her mind might have been persuaded....Stockholm syndrome maybe or maybe it was genuine?
Would Dornan bring her into the dark? Would she ever be freed? Would all her secrets and lies catch up with her?
There is a scene at the end that I don't remember if it's brought up in the GB series, but my heart broke for her. I also was relieved for her too. This gave her the strength to do what she needed to do to break free....to be Mariana again, not a slave.
This of course ends with a cliffhanger as its book two. I can't wait for Empire to see how everything clicks into place. What I love about Lili's books is simple. She throws you into a world of deceit, love and blood and hooks you into her characters. You will be begging along with them, gasping at the shocking scenes and moaning over the sex! It's crazy, it's raw, it's sick, it's love, it's addicting!

EXCERPT
I recoiled as I felt
her blood hit my cheek, the deafening roar of my gun something that was
becoming far too familiar. Allie hit the dirt before I’d even blinked, the
force of the bullet sending her straight onto her back.
Above the steady drum
of the rain, I heard movement outside. Jesus. Was she still alive? I opened the
door as quietly as I could and slipped out, pressing it shut behind me. The
rain was brutal, and I could barely see in front of me. I circled around the
back of the pickup, gun at the ready, my eyes searching for any movement as I
rounded the corner of the truck and happened upon Allie. There was blood coming
from her mouth, and she had one arm outstretched, reaching clumsily for her
gun. In her dying moments, she didn’t look like a bitch anymore. She looked
like a sad, lost little girl, and I silently cursed Murphy for pulling her into
this hellish existence. For the first time, I realized that she was younger
than me, just a young woman who fell in love with the wrong man. Don’t we all.
She saw me, and her
hand reached for the gun more desperately. Before she could grab it and take a
shot at me, I placed my bare foot on her wrist, pinning it to the ground.
She looked up at me,
her eyes sad.
‘I thought he loved
me,’ she choked.
I nodded, crouching
beside her. ‘That’s the thing about men like Murphy,’ I said softly. ‘They’re
not capable of love, Allie. They only know how to destroy.’
She seemed to soften,
her eyes closing momentarily. Blinking back tears, she gazed up at me. ‘I don’t
want to die,’ she whispered. ‘I didn’t know.’
I nodded
sympathetically, pushing her hair back from her face.
Before she could do
anything, I placed my hand over her mouth and squeezed her nose shut between my
thumb and index finger. Shock and realization lit up in her eyes as she
thrashed her head back and forth beneath my grip.
‘That’s the difference
between you and me,’ I said to her, as she clawed at my hand and sucked against
my palm for air. ‘I’m old enough to know better.
