Shillings Agency series / Entangled Publishing: Brazen

BOOK SUMMARY:

She’s a challenge he can’t afford to lose…

Navy SEAL Steven Thomas has only ever been able to count on three things: waking up in the morning, going to sleep sometime during the night, and Lauren Brixton. She’s been his best friend since grade school, and what they have is the only relationship he’s managed not to ruin.

Until one drunken night puts that all in jeopardy.

Lauren’s watched Steven flit from one-night stand to one-night stand, seemingly not interested in something more. So when the long-ignored attraction between the two of them blows up in their faces, she does the only thing she can—she pretends she doesn’t want him. But all’s fair in love and war, and Steven’s not about to lose the only person in his life who matters…

REVIEW- 3 Stars
I enjoyed Say You’re Mine. It’s a fairly quick read, as are most category romances. As far as writing style, the settings, and characters, the author did a great job. The characters were very well developed and I definitely grew to like the hero and heroine. Their chemistry was explosive and the sex scenes were HOT! Those scenes were the most interesting in the whole book.

Unfortunately, the story fell flat for me. As I started the first chapter, I was already thinking, this has been done, I’ve read it already. My opinion on that did not change. Steven is your typical sexy, broken, veteran with survivor’s guilt, who doesn’t think he’s good enough for the heroine. However, he did come around faster than I often see in this time of romance. It was refreshing for him fight for her despite his doubts about himself.

Lauren is pretty typical too, except she has a few hang-ups, rather than being the perfect gal with infinite patience and enduring love. There just wasn’t anything special about them that really drew me in, making them unique and unforgettable.

There is no action, twists or surprises, it was very predictable. There wasn’t an antagonist to drive the story, it was all about the angst and relationship between the two main characters, which can be done well, but in this instance, it was not a successful attempt. Despite Steven being a part of the Shillings Agency (security), it had nothing to do with the story.
This book wasn't for me, however that’s not to say that someone who likes an easy, quick, very sexy romance wouldn’t enjoy it. It wasn’t badly written, I was simply underwhelmed.
