 REVIEW- 3.5 Stars

This is a very sexy, quick read. I can appreciate a fast paced story that is pretty much all about the steam. Sometimes, that’s just what I’m in the mood for. However, if you are looking for meaty plot, this isn’t where you’ll find it. Never-the-less, I enjoyed it. Just to clarify, there is a lot of talk about the hardcore BSDM, but the books only goes into the art of ropes in detail. So, if you’re not a fan of BDSM (which I’m not) I think you will still enjoy the book.

            As characters, I really enjoyed Cassidy and David. I loved the tenderness that David exhibited, while also having a dirty, desperate craving for her. It was sexy as hell. His explanations about his type of rope play and BDSM were intriguing, as well as his need to help her let go of her fears. Every step of the way, he makes sure that she is completely willing before proceeding. He’s just very tender and sweet, but with an alpha yumminess that rears its head too.

            Cassidy is an interesting character, she’s got some sass, but is very insecure. She had a crappy childhood growing up, but while the true nature of it is alluded to, we don’t find out anything but the bare bones and it left me wondering what all the fuss was about… She’s open minded and eager to try new things, fighting her own instincts to withdraw into her safety zone.

            There is a little plot to carry the story along, however it’s weak, but that’s mainly because that isn’t what the story is about. It’s about Cassidy and David, their relationship, and sexual and self-discovery. I don’t want to spoil anything so I’ll just say, when the cat’s out of the bag, David should have known right then, and I just didn’t see his character making the choices that he did. To me, it didn’t jive with the guy the author was portraying throughout.

            As I said though, it’s a quick, steamy read and while it won’t be on my re-read list, it was enjoyable.

This story was hard for me to get into at first and I struggled with where Lexi was going with it. Once I kept reading though I totally understood that this was a book about learning to accept who are for yourself and not to please anyone else. I loved the whole moral to the story that Lexi had with this one. It makes you take a look at yourself and see who you are trying to please or are you just trying to make yourself feel happy and achieve your own goals in life.

When we meet Cohen, his girlfriend is breaking up with him because she says that he doesn't take any risks and is repetitive in the places he wants to eat and the things he likes to do. She is looking for someone who will be adventurous with her so she leaves Cohen and never looks back. Poor Cohen is left reassessing his life. Cohen has just graduated from college and is working at his family's furniture store with his sister's. Cohen has daily conversations with Maren, a young woman that works at the warehouse for the store. Cohen and Maren have never meet and their conversations start to take a different toll once she gives Cohen her cell number "for emergencies" with work issues.

Cohen is set up on several blind dates that end up being terrible. When Cohen resorts to asking Maren what he should do in certain situations with his blind dates through texting her, these become comical conversations that will have you laughing out loud for sure. I love the humor that Lexi threw in these conversations. Maren has fantasies about Cohen and uses his sexy voice that she looks forward to hearing every day to get her through certain "fantasies". LOL. Poor Cohen always has horrible blind dates, but it does give him a chance to text with Maren!!

When Cohen and Maren finally decide to meet, it is instant attraction and they cannot hide their feeling for each other. Even though Maren's home life does not give her much of an opportunity to have a relationship with anyone, I am so glad that she took the chance and meet Cohen. I love that this ends in a HEA for Cohen especially!! He had such a run of bad luck. I can't wait to see what Lexi has in store for us as readers in the future. Her writing flows and is easy to read!!

Excerpt

It’s surreal sitting here on my bed, listening to my girlfriend talk, because I’m pretty sure she’s breaking up with me—while wearing my favorite Dodgers T-shirt.

The same one she pulled on after she screwed my brains out and collapsed on my chest, sweaty and giggly, before falling asleep in my arms last night.

“What the hell are you talking about?” I ask, sitting up straighter in the bed and watching her pile all her silky hair on top of her head as she looks at herself in the mirror.

She actually takes a second to check herself out from the side before she bothers to turn and acknowledge me again. Not that I can blame her, since she’s hot as hell, but can the girl focus for two seconds?

“Kensley, I don’t even understand what you’re saying. Last night you were on top of me in this bed telling me how much you love me, and now it’s all over? I’m… This makes no damn sense. At all. So explain it to me.”

She comes over to the bed and sits on the edge carefully. She looks at me, her big brown eyes wide and innocent. It’s a face she makes when she feels guilty.

Come to think of it, it’s a face she made last night. When she stripped her black lacy bra and panties off and pushed me back on the mattress. Just before she straddled me, asked me to talk dirty, then slid my dick into her. While she was whispering that she loved me and always would, she flashed me that sorry look.

My mind flips back to a few hours before.

“Cohen,” she panted, her hips pumping up and down, her gorgeous tits shaking with every bounce. “I’ll never forget you.”

I thought it was a weird thing to say, but my mind wasn’t really focused on her words. I was reaching up to feel the soft, full swell of those perfect tits. Sometimes Kensley says crazy shit. She wants to be an actress, and she’s into role-playing and all that, so I basically ignore most of what she says because we both tend to get wild in the sack. I say lots of things no one who knows me from work or general life would imagine me saying when I have a beautiful girl in bed with me.

“Cohen.” She takes my hand and looks up, every move so deliberate, it’s like she rehearsed it all.

Fuck.

“Last night was… It was my way to say good-bye,” Kensley explains, her voice soft. Theatrically soft. Like she’s gunning for best sympathetic breakup with a pathetic boyfriend.

Double-fuck.

“Good-bye?” I sputter. “Really? Good-bye? We looked at puppies last week. This week you’re ready to say good-bye?”

“Let me go down on you,” she offered. It was a nice gesture, but Kensley didn’t go down on me unless she was saying sorry or she wanted something.

Since I wasn’t pissed at her, I asked, as she sank to her knees, “What do you want, babe? I know a while ago you made that registry at the jewelry store that friend of yours owns, but our anniversary is in a few weeks. I promise, you’ll be happy.”

Her eyes flipped up to my face and she looked…guilty. “Can’t I just do this to be nice?”

I wasn’t going to say no to that. “Of course. And th-th-ank…good freaking God, Kensley.”

And then I didn’t say anything else, because my girlfriend’s tongue was doing crazy, amazing things to my dick, and I wasn’t about to stop that.
