Synopsis: Factory mechanic Duke Crawford just wants to watch SportsCenter in peace. Unfortunately, living with four divorcee sisters doesn’t provide much silence, nor does it change his stance on relationships. But when a fellow commitment-phobe stumbles into his life, getting him good and worked up, he can’t deny his protective instincts. Samantha Waverly’s brother just put her in an impossible situation. The only way out? Marry huge, gruff, gladiator look-alike Duke—for show, of course. She doesn’t make promises—she knows too well how easily they can be broken—and this is no exception. As the blistering attraction between them grows, the lines around the no-strings relationship blur. But Duke and Samantha’s marriage is only for show…or is it?

BOOK TRAILER

Review - 4 stars!

I really loved Duke in the other books in this series, so I was happy to see him getting his own story. As usual with this author, the characters are unique, the plot is engaging, and the chemistry is explosive!

From the very beginning, I loved Samantha’s character. She has a brilliant imagination, bold and unique. She sees the world in a whole different light, like a constantly shifting caricature. We may see someone as brave, but she sees them as Captain America. This part of her personality was fun and if often made me giggle.

My only issue with Sam was her odd attitude at time. She would think about how everyone eventually leaves her in the weirdest moments sometimes. Ones where I felt like the thought was out of place. Like it was the only excuse the author could come up with, and it was consistent, so they just stuck with it. When she does finally come to her senses, the change is extremely abrupt. There is no slow build and unfortunately, for me, it took away from the story.

Duke is a loveable character. He’s unintentionally funny, a bit of a cliché (which he fully admits to) with his desire to do nothing but watch Sports Center and drink beer, and he’s a dedicated family man. Normally, it would be hard to see a character like him fall for the heroine so quickly—insta-love just doesn’t jive, But, somehow, the author built the situation in just the right way so I could absolutely see how it could conceivably happen to him. And that dirty, delicious mouth…swoon.

The sex scenes are panty-melting hot. Although, while I understand this author’s attempt to be “real” in this series, meaning not everyone has movies star good looks and a ripped body, there were a couple of descriptive features on Duke that mellowed my fire to a simmer.

Overall, this was another fantastic read by Tessa Bailey. She’s a go to author for me and while this one won’t end up on my re-read shelf, I would still highly recommend it, along with all of her books!

ABOUT TESSA BAILEY

highres-MJB_5140.jpg
Tessa Bailey is originally from Carlsbad, California. The day after high school graduation, she packed her yearbook, ripped jeans and laptop, driving cross-country to New York City in under four days. Her most valuable life experiences were learned thereafter while waitressing at K-Dees, a Manhattan pub owned by her uncle. Inside those four walls, she met her husband, best friend and discovered the magic of classic rock, managing to put herself through Kingsborough Community College and the English program at Pace University at the same time. Several stunted attempts to enter the work force as a journalist followed, but romance writing continued to demand her attention. She now lives in Long Island, New York with her husband of eight years and four-year-old daughter. Although she is severely sleep-deprived, she is incredibly happy to be living her dream of writing about people falling in love.
