Sweet Surrender by Liliana Hart is a hot, slightly suspenseful novella from the MacKenzie Family series. As I have never read anything by Liliana Hart until now, I had no idea what I was missing. Even though it was a novella, Sweet Surrender was packed full of witty remarks, explosive chemistry, and a great story in general.

Liza Carmichael is in Surrender to see to the bakery left to her by her aunt. She wants nothing to do with it but sell as she is not going to be stuck in Surrender. That is until she sees a gorgeous man out of the bakery’s window that she wants to get to know better.

Retired cop Grant Boone is in Surrender to visit at the invitation of Conner Mackenzie. He is trying to lay low after an undercover stint gone bad. He is still trying to find his place and is deep down still a police officer. He spies Liza across the street and is immediately drawn to this amazon type woman. Even as Conner warns him off saying Grant won’t want to go there, he knows he will.

When Liza and Grant meet there is instant chemistry and they both know that it will go somewhere. Just as the flirting gets good, the window to the bakery is shot up. Grant is no longer laying low. What proceeds next is incredibly hot and steamy sex, resourceful thinking to avoid a would be assassin, and cars flying through buildings.

Liliana Hart has written an exceptional novella that I was immediately drawn into. Even without reading the Mackenzie series prior, I was able to follow along no problem. Reading it though would have probably enhanced the experience and I plan to start the series as soon as possible! Bottom line, I loved Grant and Liza and hope to read more about them in the future.
