My life revolved around two things. Football and my cock. And not necessarily in that order. Being the head football coach for a top university in Texas had its ups and its downs. The ups? Endless women to f*ck. The downs? The politics that came with the job. From the moment Aubrey Cain walked into my office, she turned my world upside down. Being forced to have her follow me around for a month was going to be a pain in the ass. Especially since I couldn’t keep my eyes off of her. The best I’d hoped to come out of this was a few nights with her in my bed. I never imagined she’d be the game changer. Brett Owens was my assignment. Head football coach for a top college, bad boy reputation, short temper, and handsome good looks should have scared me off. But I was tougher than that. From the first words out of his obnoxious, dirty-talking mouth, I knew it was going to be a long month. It wasn’t five minutes after meeting him, he hit on me. If only I had known his blue eyes would haunt my dreams and awaken a desire inside of me I never knew existed. This was business. There was no way I would be tempted by him no matter how good looking he was or how many things he whispered in my ear. He was only supposed to be my assignment. Not the man who threatened to destroy both my heart and my career. I would follow along with his playbook for now. But who would end up winning was anyone’s guess. The Playbook is a stand-alone novel.

REVIEW - 4 Stars
This is my first book by Kelly
Elliot, but it certainly won’t be my last! The Playbook is sexy, entertaining,
and well-written.
The
author does an excellent job of creating complete characters for the H & h.
I never felt like they were missing something, that extra detail that would
keep them from leaping off the page and becoming real. They were a little
inconsistent in their own thoughts and wishes, but this seemed to be a purposeful
character flaw in both of them. It kept the tension in the story so the reader
isn’t bored, however, it did get a little tedious at times. Both of them are
unbelievably stubborn. Lol. Their chemistry is explosive and they definitely
singed the pages of the book.
Despite that, I
really liked the Brett & Aubrey. I was worried at the beginning because
Brett has such a reputation, but you learn quickly that it’s really masking
deeper issues. He’s hiding behind the meaningless hookups.
Aubrey is a
spitfire. Intelligent, driven, and focused on succeeding in a business where
women are often not welcome or respected. It really backs up her determination
to stay out of Brett’s bed, because she certainly isn’t being paranoid.
Football is a “good ‘ole boys club” and getting ahead is a monumental task for women.
But, she is also a devoted sister, daughter, and friend.
The
plot is fun and well executed, it felt like the author really enjoyed the
subject and characters. The “I’m doing this for your own good” scenario drives
me a little batty, but that’s a personal preference, so I can’t fault the
author for her choice. It carried on for longer than I would have liked, but in
the end it was worth it. And, I will say, she threw me for a loop at one point,
and I’m not easy to surprise. I wasn’t expecting the actions carried out by a
certain character. I don’t want to give it away though, so that’s all I’ll say.
I
loved the ending and epilogue. Loved it.
I
really enjoyed The Playbook. I’m glad I read it and would recommend it. Though it
won’t end up on my re-read shelf, it absolutely turned me on to this author and
I’m looking forward to reading more by her.
