5 Star Review- Illusion by J.S. Cooper @JSCooperauthor

Illusion (Swept Away #1)
By J.S. Cooper

The day started like every other day...

Bianca London finds herself kidnapped and locked up in a van with a strange man. Ten hours later, they’re dumped on a deserted island. Bianca has no idea what’s going on and her attraction to this stranger is the only thing keeping her fear at bay.

Jakob Bradley wants only to figure out why they’ve been left on the island and how they can get off. But as the days go by, he can’t ignore his growing fascination with Bianca.

In order to survive, Bianca and Jakob must figure out how they’re connected, but as they grow closer, secrets are revealed that may destroy everything they thought they knew about each other.

I could not put this book down! Even if I weren’t glued to the page because the writing style is fabulous (which it is), and the characters are awesome (which they are), I would be devouring the book just to see what the hell happens next! J.S. Cooper weaves the plot around you until you just aren’t sure what is going on, and every little clue makes you questions any conclusions you think you’ve come to. Eventually, I had a couple of my major suspicions confirmed. However, if you figure it out and think that makes this story predictable, you would be so very wrong!! For every part of the mystery that is solved, the author uncovers another, and you’ll definitely be left guessing at the end, because it’s a major cliff hanger!
Bianca made me just a little dizzy at first, coming off a little flighty. However, I quickly recognized the kindred New Yorker in her. Our minds run a mile a minute, we are always four steps ahead in our day, and we are certainly not a subtle people… Bianca lost her mother as a child and when her father dies, he left her a legacy of finding out what truly happened to her mother. Some of her ideas are well thought out, but they weren’t executed well. She’s a little too naïve sometimes, and she trusts the wrong people, which ultimately gets her into a boatload of trouble. However, that innocence endeared Bianca to me. She’s determined to get answers, but she isn’t malicious. I can’t say the same about the people she is up against, so her methods pull her in deeper and she learns that there is no one she can trust.
Once Bianca is marooned on the island with Jakob, you get to see a whole new side of her. She is seriously tough. And, she’s got a dry sarcasm that made me want to fist bump her at times. Jakob pushes her button and antagonizes her to no end, but she doesn’t turn into a whiney, useless, little girl. She holds her own, willing to do what it takes to survive. At first, I was a little frustrated with the fact that she wasn’t picking up on the verbal clues from Jakob that were so obvious to me. However, when I really looked at the situation, I had to think, “Would I be that observant in her situation?” Hungry, thirsty, tired…etc. Yeah…probably not.
Jakob is a freaking enigma, with a side of personality disorder. One second he is carefree, sweet, and fun loving, the next second he is dark and sensual, and then he turns into a hostile, judgmental a$$hole. The thing is…no matter which of those guys he is, he’s still delicious and I could’ve eaten him for dessert. In those moments of sweetness, he had my heart melting and how he cared for Bianca. The dark and sensual side of him had me burning from the inside out. The chemistry between Jakob and Bianca is almost palpable and I was fanning myself from the heat.
Jakob is a complete mystery and I was constantly at war with my suspicions of him. The multiple personalities aside, there was just too much surrounding the situation that pointed to there being more to Jakob’s story.
J.S. Cooper took me on a thrill ride, but then left me hanging the top of the rollercoaster! So, I’m on to devour the second book. Not only because I need to know what happens, but also because I’m happy to spend more time with Jakob and Bianca! Five Stars all around!
