This Week’s Question

Before blogging (dark times people!) how would you find out about new books or did you?

Question provided by: The Pegster Reads

This is kind of a funny question to me. The short answer is shelves first, then when Amazon got big, their Top 100 List.

The slightly longer answer… I stumbled across a few romance writers years ago, when we still found them by looking on the shelf and…”judging a book by it’s cover.” Lol. Since I’d found ones I liked, I stuck with them, that way I wasn’t disappointed. The thing is, I’m the only person I know who reads this genre, plus my family is super conservative so it makes it difficult to share. Eventually, I’d read almost all of their books. I went scrolling through Amazon’s top 100 and took a chance on J. Lynn’s (Jennifer L. Armentrout) “Wait For You.” I was now completely hooked on her. So, I started looking for books through this list. I discovered Aurora Rose Reynolds, Penelope Douglas, Abbi Glines…and so many more that I now 1-click whenever they have a release. I also find authors through anthologies. Like "Alpha's On Top." K. Webster and Rochelle Paige were discoveries from that collection.
Through a Lux read-along, I all of the sudden had friends to talk to about the books I love! I started looking at their recommendations, blog reviews, and recomendations of the new authors I’d come to love. Now that I blog…it’s similar (recommendations from friends and authors), however, I find them through blog tours too. Lol. I find that I look at blog recommendations more now than I did before I started blogging though...is that weird?

Did you ever use Amazon’s Top 100 List?

If you like my Facebook page, that would awesome!! I’ll be sure to like yours in return.

  1. Amazon was definitely my best book friend back in the day (still is kind of). Also, I legitimately tried to utilize New York Times Bestseller's list. One summer I tried to read the whole list and that's how I ended up reading Twilight, haha.

Thanks for visiting my FF, following back.

  2. Its such a wonderful experience getting to share book talk with other people who enjoy them. I don't know anybody else who likes to read like I do. This made it so hard to discover great new books.

    1. Yeah, I'm one of those weird people who aren't on Facebook. Hence the reason why you couldn't find me! ;)

  5. I can relate with your struggle in sharing books with "conservative" family members. I loved and still sometimes do, enjoy scouting the bookshelf's at my local library :)

    Returning the follow!

  6. You know, I forgot about Amazon's lists, and I was using it before I became a book blogger! I often think of book blogging and my addiction to Amazon Prime as being one and the same, but before I started blogging 5 years ago I remember making sure to order $25 worth of books in order to get free shipping. I also remember it being much harder to find books I wanted to read in order to make up that amount, and looking through Amazon lists. Now, of course, spending just $25 is dang near impossible!

Thanks for stopping by my blog and giving me a follow, I'm now following you back!

  7. I didn't do the Amazon 100 lists, but I used their recommendations a lot! And most of my friends aren't readers at all - which is another thing I love about blogging because now I can chat with other booklovers whenever I feel like it :)
Thanks for stopping by earlier, Tizzy. Happy reading.

  8. I don't think I've actually ever looked at Amazon's 100 list, I used to just click on a book I loved on amazon and scroll through the "customers who bought this also bought these" recommendations. =)

  9. I have never used Amazon's Top 100. Amazon is not very popular in my country but Goodreads did play a role in my life :D Thanks for stopping by my FB page.
