As a young girl, Emilia Gwendolyn Carrington told the annoying future Duke of Pindar that she would marry any man in the world before him-so years later she is horrified to realize that she has nowhere else to turn.

Evander Septimus Brody has his own reasons for agreeing to Mia’s audacious proposal, but there’s one thing he won’t give his inconvenient wife: himself.

Instead, he offers Mia a devil’s bargain… he will spend four nights a year with her. Four nights, and nothing more. And those only when she begs for them.

Which Mia will never do.

Now Vander faces the most crucial challenge of his life: he must seduce his own wife in order to win her heart-and no matter what it takes, this is the one battle he can’t afford to lose.

Review- 4.5 Stars
I can honestly say that as I finished this book, I was sad that it was coming to an end. I felt that I had grown with the characters in this book as they went through their lives and figured out who they actually were. Emilia, aka Mia, is a young lady when the book starts out and she has written a poem for a crush of hers named Vander. Once the identity of the poem's writer has been discovered, Vander does like any other young man would do and put's Mia down for fear of embarrassment from his peers that are with him at the time. Not only does Vander hurt Mia's feelings, but he also gives her a complex about herself that follows her for years to come.

When it comes time that Mia has to wed in order to keep custody of her nephew and not let their Uncle take over his estate, Mia thinks she has it all planned out but gets jilted at the altar. Mia thinks that her groom has gone away to another country to live. While Mia is in mourning, she comes up with an idea to blackmail Vander into marrying her in order to keep custody of Charlie, her nephew. Mia tells Vander that he can get out of the marriage in 6 months, but Vander fails to read Mia's letter with her stipulations on it. Vander accepts Mia's proposition but only on his own terms. The two get married and soon realize that there is more there than what either one of them had ever thought. Vander gives Mia four nights a year with him and that is all. As soon as Vander discovers what Mia has to offer him, he wants to change the agreement. Mia is very reserved about what Vander can do with her and her body. Mia still remembers what was said by Vander and his friends all those years ago and it makes her worry about what he thinks of her now.

Vander meets Charlie and makes immediate friends with him! Vander allows Charlie some special privileges that Mia does not allow him to do and Charlie loves it. Vander takes time with Charlie and their relationship really flourishes. Meanwhile, Mia and Vander are growing in their relationship with each other as well and Mia is starting to realize that she had feelings much stronger than she had a first thought for Vander. She begins to love him!

Vander sends some of his people to look for Mia's fiancé that left her at the altar because he doesn't not believe in his heart that someone could actually leave Mia.  What he finds out changes everything between him and Mia. Once Vander actually lets himself give into his feelings, he realizes that things are much more serious for him and Mia than what he ever expected. He professes his love to Mia and then things take a turn for the better in their relationship. This was such a good story and plot. It makes you realize that even though you may think that you are setting someone up for your benefit, things backfire sometimes and you have to realize what is really happening. Someone bigger than us already knows what is going to happen and we just have to go with it sometimes. Mia was not fond of being in the marriage any longer than she has specified but soon found out that it would be what was best for her and Charlie. She had truly fallen in love with Vander.

I am so glad that this story ended in a HEA. It was back and forth for a while and I did not know how things were going to end but I am so happy with the ending of this story! Thank Eloisa for a great read!!!

  1. I grew up reading books by Kathleen E. Woodiwiss, Bobbi Smith...just to name a couple. My first love was historical romance novels. 25 years later and I may have spread my wings a bit but I always go back to the first love.
