4.5 Stars

Oh mind is all over the place after reading this book.   It's heartbreaking, swoon worthy, will piss ya off, make ya laugh and have you panting.

Jen Frederick does a wonderful job helping you envision this story.  I literally felt my heart beating out of my chest with its intense heartbreak.  I was emotionally depleted after reading this.  It's raw and felt just so real.  You become emotionally invested in the characters and their lives.

Charlotte and Nate....Nate and Charlotte forever.  At least that's what they want, but circumstances in their lives pull them apart.  The first half of the book is set when they are teenagers.  They discover what life and love is all about.  It's hard and sometimes it just plain sucks.  Charlotte and the Jackson boys Nick and Nate have been friends forever.  Their lives are so intertwined between their parents they feel like one big family.  However, Nate hasn't been feeling that way towards Charlotte anymore, he sees her turning into a beautiful girl not some kid sister type.  He's starting to think long term towards her...she's his!  Nick is her best friend and he is her protector.  The feelings that both of them feel is undeniable, but Charlotte is scared because she's not experienced and circumstances currently are not the best...she's sick.    But how do you deny yourself of the one thing you know and feel in your heart to be right...you don't.  As Charlotte and Nate give into the love they have nothing prepares them for the turn of events that happen.  Charlotte's health is in limbo so her parents whisk her away to another country.  Nate enlists in the Navy, but doesn't tell Charlotte until she leaves.  He is making plans for their future and she'll beg him to stay.  He needs to prove himself that he can be a man and not rely on his family.  But as the weeks go by, Nate starts to withdraw from Charlotte, due to something that happened at a party.  He stops fighting for their love...he destroys her heart.  She finally gives up her fight, but she can't stop loving him.   How will she ever move on?  He is her poison and he's her antidote.

Fast forward nine years and a chance encounter brings them back into each other's lives.  Can they rekindle their love or have they both moved on?  They both have grown up and their lives are totally different.  But you can feel the love they both still have for each other...damn you can practically see it jump off the page and smack ya...it's hot!

I'm giving this 4.5 stars because some of the words to describe things I didn't like and I felt at times it was a little wordy(just my opinion)  But I will say I am in love with it.  Jen Frederick takes us through the awkward stage of growing up, painful heartbreak, and finding the purest and ultimate true love.  I can't express how I felt reading Charlotte's letters....I literally felt my heart clench and then I felt it break.  My heart was broken for her.  Jen does a good job tearing your heart out and sewing it back together.    Loved the gut wrenching parts!  Can I say how much I love the cover...its hot!

But when I close my eyes, I can see him—and me. I can see me pressed up against the mirror in the bathroom, my hands making starfish prints as I brace myself against his thrusts. I can hear his harsh breathing, his commands to come, come now, Charlotte. There was that passage of time that felt endless when he was between my legs, licking me softly and leisurely as if there wasn’t anything in this world that gave him more pleasure than helping me find my own. I touch myself, but it’s useless. My body wants one thing: Nathan Jackson.
I’m on fire and the ache of want is so acute it’s like a knife in my chest. I’ve had multiple surgeries, chemo treatments, radiation but that’s nothing compared to what I feel now.
Time and distance had dulled my pain and that my desire and love for Nathan had actually started to ease only to be stoked into high, hot flames by his reappearance in my life.
He is the poison and the antidote.
