Secrets—and safety—melt under a midnight sun…

Liv Chandler is running for her life, and the cops haven’t been able to do a thing to help. But there’s one man who makes her feel safe, no matter what…rugged charter boat captain Rafe Brodie.

To Rafe, Liv is a beautiful mystery, one he can’t ignore. He means to unearth her secrets, and in the process, if luck is on his side, maybe the spark between them will ignite.

But Liv’s past is more dangerous than Rafe could guess, and when his first mate turns up dead, she fears that she’s next. That there’s something else coming she can’t see. That even Rafe and the remote village of Valdez, Alaska can’t protect her forever…

Review- 4.75 Stars
I’ve been reading Kat Martin’s books since before the original series that this branches from, was even started. I’m a huge fan and I’ve read all the books in the Reins of Wind Canyon series, as well as the spinoffs about the Brodies. Against the Tide is another winner, with one exception that caused me to rate it as 4.75 stars instead of 5.
Kat’s books cannot be accused of being “all about the sex with no storyline.” No way. They are always wrapped around a fast paced, always moving, intriguing plot. The suspense is riveting and action packed, I could stop turning the pages.
It’s hard to review this without spoilers, so I’ll try to be as vague as I can without blowing the story. There is a murder in Rafe and Olivia’s town and the two are determined to see the killer brought to justice. For Rafe, it was a close friend, for Liv, it’s about seeing that the wrong man isn’t blames and the guilty party is made to pay. They team up to accomplish their goal and now they are dealing with a scorching desire as well as a murderer.
Liv has been doing her best to steer clear of Rafe since the day she met him, she’s very attracted to him, but she’s got secrets that she absolutely cannot afford to have discovered. Working together trying to catch a killer means she can’t avoid him any longer.
Rafe has wanted Oliva from the first time he met her. He’s always known there was something about her, something that meant she would be his, for however long it lasted. He’s been patient and taking things slow, but now that he has the opportunity to spend time with her, he’s decided that he’s waited long enough.
I loved Rafe and Livia, they both have strong personalities but they complement each other. The magnetism between them is crackling with sexual tension and it kept me on edge as much as the twists and turns, and unexpected action in the plot. They clearly care about others and if I met them in real life, I would to have them as friends. Of course, I’d also love it if Liv was out of the picture and Rafe carried me off into the sunset instead… Also, it’s always great to catch up with characters from the other books, even if it is just briefly.
The only reason I knocked off .25 of a star is because Kat can get a little too repetitive with small words and actions. It’s the same ones I read in all of her books, although I felt like it was quite a bit more in this one. Particularly the hardening of Rafe’s jaw. He does that A LOT. The other one that always stands out to me is the phrase “Dear God.”
However, I encourage you to overlook these little things because even with them, the book is absolutely stellar. Another Kat Martin book that will be put o my re-read shelf. I run through the whole series every so often and I’ll love adding this one to the list.
