Review 5 Unbelievable Stars!

Wow! Wow! How am I ever going to say goodbye to Malcolm Saint?
While I’m devastated that Malcolm and Rachel’s story is done, this book was the perfect ending for them. Panty-melting, heart-warming, and happily ever after!
At the end of Manwhore, Rachel is devastated, she had let herself believe, just the tiniest bit, in having a future with Malcolm. Once her real purpose for contacting Malcolm in the first place comes to light, that belief is shattered. However, she is desperate to give Malcolm an explanation, but he is out of her reach. She is so broken at the beginning of Manwhore, it made my heart hurt for her. At the same time, I was a little annoyed with her. Malcolm proved over and over that he was changing for her and by not trusting him, she belittle the gestures. I certainly couldn’t blame Saint for cutting her out.
At the same time, Rachel completely redeems herself to me eventually. She does have loyalty and a backbone hiding in there and it finally shows up. Amazingly, it is Saint who gives her the courage to stand strong, with her need to prove that she has the characteristics that Malcolm values the most. Although, I did have a moments when I wanted to smack her. Here Saint is giving her another chance and she still doesn’t trust him 100%, believing in his ability to have a lasting, monogamous relationship.
Malcolm Logan Preston Saint. Swoon. I could just leave it at that, but I won’t. I admired Saint in Manwhore as I watched him take a leap and lower his walls for Rachel. He exposed the real him, his vulnerabilities, and was ready to be a one-woman man. However, it is in Manwhore +1 that he truly blew me away. There have constantly been examples of his compassion and true heart, but I was shocked when he surrenders to his compassionate and loving side, and gives Rachel another chance so quickly, despite his anger and hurt. He gives her the opportunity to earn his trust back and even if he hadn’t, he would have still protected her.
The surrounding forces working against them are very well plotted. Katy always builds her characters so that you grow to know them, to feel the emotional connection, whether it is love, or hate. Even the secondary characters become real to the reader, they are just as complex, we just don’t get into their heads the way we do with Saint and Rachel. I love the little details that make them so real, talking about small things like the Chicago Cubs. This wasn’t necessary to the story, it would have still been great without it, but the brilliance in it, is that it grounds them. Makes they personalities “normal” for lack of a better term, it’s the mundane things that make them real.
The chemistry between Saint and Rachel is hot as hell. The heat was blowing right off of the pages and steaming up the room. You might want to grab some ice water of a fan. Their relationship is also built on their personalities though. The things they have in common, or the things that complement each other. They clearly have fun together, in and out of the bedroom.
There were times when I was a little afraid that they might not get their HEA, but I held out hope since Katy’s ending have always left me with the warm fuzzies. I shut Manwhore +1 with that beautiful feeling, however it was laced with sadness that the book was over. To be honest, I went right back to the beginning of Manwhore and read them both again! #nerd
My hope is that Katy will continue with this group as a series and we’ll get to see what happens with Rachel and Malcolm’s friends. Until then, I eagerly sit on the edge of my seat waiting for the next great Katy Evans novel. What an excruciating wait! Don’t even consider whether to read these books, just do it! 5 Steamy, heart-melting, rereading stars!
