The
prologue of this book broke my heart! It was intense and I was so sad for Seth,
Rowan (love than name!), and her brother Jase. However, don’t let it keep you
from reading on! I didn’t think I would love this book as much as I did.
This story is focused on Seth and Rowan, but we get to
know Piper and Jase as well, and I really enjoyed that. The author has created
very unique personalities in all the characters, and yet they don’t overshadow
each other.
Rowan is a strong independent woman and she has truly
built a solid life for herself. Seth’s rejection was brutal and a weaker person
would have let it shatter her. I did start to get just a little frustrated with
how long she fought forgiving Seth, however it’s fairly understandable. I just
felt that he had truly proven himself and toward the end she was being a little
petty. Despite that, I loved her as a person, I would want to be her friend if
I met her in real life. She’s got a great sense of humor, a hard work ethic,
and she loves whit her whole heart.
Seth is just smoking, seriously. That man and his dirty
mouth had me reaching for the ice cubes. He’s strong, determined, a helicopter
crew chief in the marines (yum), and he’s got that alpha streak that will make
you swoon.
It’s
so clear when you meet him in chapter one that he has truly grown up and left
the young boy he was behind. He’s owned up to his mistakes and is ready to move
on and make them right. Looking at the situation from his perspective gives the
reader a clearer understanding of why he lashed out like he did, and I’m not so
sure many of us wouldn’t have done the same thing at that age. I get the
feeling that if this book had not been in dual POV, I might not have fallen as
hard for Seth.
The chemistry between these two is explosive and the
steamy scenes are HOT!! The banter in their heads was funny, as well as their
witty back and forth with each other. The plot is all about the romance between
these two and it’s all it needs. There is enough background to fill in the
holes, but their relationship was captivating and I was turning every page in
anticipation of what would happen next.
I can’t wait for the next book in the story and this one
is definitely on my re-read list! 5 Stars!
