New Adult Contemporary
Publisher: Simon & Schuster
Release: December 9, 2014

SYNOPSIS

Every woman wants me--except the one I sing for.

Seattle shakes with anticipation: they call it the concert of the year. They say girls are getting pregnant just thinking about my band being in town.

But when you love a girl, you don't leave her with nothing but a ring and a promise.

Any man with half a brain should know.

So what did I expect my girl would do when she saw me again?

Well, for starters, she loathes our music. Particularly the song I wrote about her.

When I sing it, the stadium is in an uproar. Thousands of fans scream my name like I'm a god--but yeah, not her. Crystal clear: the girl's not happy to see me.

Black hair, black boots, a bad attitude, that's her -- Pandora Stone is a freaking man-eater and she's out for my blood.

That's alright.

Let her come at me. Because I'm out for her heart and, this time, there's no way she can stop me.

REVIEW- 5 STARS!!

I am a huge fan of Katy Evans and the Real series! This book is so worthy of the series! In the first 4 books we didn’t get to know Pandora very well, so this was quite the mystery to unravel.

Pandora is bitter. Bitter and angry. She dresses in all black (the quintessential Goth), hates music, and hates men even more. The only people who have broken past some of her barriers are her close circle of friends, Melanie, Brooke, and Kyle. And yet, even they do not know the reasons for her attitude. The only one who knows even a little of her story is her mother, a woman who has little emotion, is a complete control freak, and scares the crap out of Pandora. The one true light in her life is her little cousin Magnolia. She lets her in completely and is determined to break out of her mother’s clutched one day and find freedom for herself, and security for Magnolia.

What the world doesn’t know, is that Pandora’s heart was completely shattered at 17, so broken that there was no way for her to put the pieces back together. When the cause of her pain shows up in her city, the love turned to hate rages and she decides to do something about it. She convinces Melanie to help her along in her devious plan to humiliate the man who was once her entire world. Unfortunately…she gets caught.
Mackenna Jones is a rock star. AS the lead singer for the hottest rock band out there, he seems to live the life of the rich, carefree playboy. However, he hides a pain and insecurity within his music and the string of meaningless nights spent with girls he forgets the moment he leaves their bed. Then one day, he comes face to face with the reality of his past, the woman he can’t forget; the love of his life. Who, now looks at him like he is the lowest form of scum on the earth.

Pandora is talked into a deal, a deal that forces her and Mackenna to spend time together. Pandora and Mackenna are both offered something they desperately want in return and begrudgingly agree. Pandora is determined to spend the time making his life miserable. Mackenna is determined to win her back.

Eventually, they begin to find level ground and work through their past, but Pandora is still harboring secrets that could push back the progress they’ve made indefinitely.
I’m not usually a fan of books that give you the alternate past/present. However, Katy does it in such a way that it flows smoothly in the story. So much of the plot’s foundation is rooted in this past that the reader wouldn’t truly understand the present day without being a part of the past.

Pandora and Kackenna are really complex characters. Katy kept me intrigued throughout the whole book. The characters unravel little by little and you don’t really have them figured out until the end. The events and reasons behind the animosity between Pandora and Mackenna are revealed as the story progresses. You’re learning the events in the same way that the characters are remembering them, shaping the current moment in the story.

Mackenna is an insanely hot hero. He could burn up the pages in one scene, and melt your heart in the next. There were definitely moments when I was shocked at Pandora’s ability to keep from giving in to their raging attraction. When they do come together, you’ll need some ice to cool down the room!

There was only one tiny thing that I will warn you about, there is a “twist,” that is fairly predictable. I didn’t know it was coming, but I wasn’t at all surprised. Other than that (almost too insignificant to mention!), this book rocked! Pun intended…

Katy is a “must read” author for me. The Real series is one of my favorites. Katy’s heroes are the sexiest of alpha males and her heroines are likeable. I can’t wait to see what she has planned next…and I’ll be sulking around until I get my hands on it!!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Katy Evans grew up with books and book-boyfriends until she found a real sexy boyfriend to love. They married and are now hard at work on their own happily ever after. Katy loves her family and friends, and she also loves reading, walking, baking, and being consumed by her characters until she reaches “The End.” Which is, hopefully, only the beginning…
