Olivia
is Anna Wintour’s worst nightmare, and she doesn’t give a shit. She’s wanted to
go into fashion design her whole life, and nothing is going to stop her
fabulous plus sized self. Not even her boss from hell, or the fact that she’s
the fat Cinderella of the most exclusive lingerie store in Bushwick, Ohio.
She’s sworn off dating, because she is focused, dammit, and will not get
distracted by anyone in college. She has shit to do and places to go, be it on
her own with the clothing she makes, or with the girls in Twelve Beats In A
Bar, the all-female a cappella group she’s part of.
Why
do group projects always have to ruin everything?
Thierry
Acosta has it all. Shortstop on Bushwick University’s baseball team, amazing
grades in college, everything he could want. When he gets paired with Olivia
for a group project, things are only getting better. And then his dad
loses his job, and Thierry’s life falls apart. He can’t manage to get himself
to practice, to class… anywhere. He’s got the scars on his wrists to prove that
this has happened before, but he thought he was better. He thought he could
deal with something like this. The cuts on his thighs say otherwise.
Before
they know it, Olivia and Thierry’s relationship has gone from casual project
partners to not-so-casual more-than-friends. But when things take a turn for
the worse, can they face the growing reality of a relationship that’s become
much serious than either of them expected - or wanted?

I smile, hoping I don’t look to creepy.
She grins and heads over to my table. “You have excellent taste in food,” she says, checking out my half eaten sandwich.
“Yeah, I just learned that.”
“That pie is a goddamned miracle pie. Hayley is a goddess.”
“Really?”
“That pie inspires marriage proposals,” she says.
“I think it might be a little too early to propose, especially since I have no idea who she is.” And I’m nineteen, for God’s sake. I just learned how to do my own laundry-- I don’t think I’m ready for anything marriage related quite yet.
Liv laughs. “That won’t stop you. But her boyfriend will.”
I salute. “Thank you for the warning, then.” I gesture toward her bag. “You have everything you need?”
She rolls her eyes. “I don’t even know what she’s doing, but apparently whatever she had decided lunch was going to be wasn’t good enough, and obviously, I’m the one who needs to drop everything and go fix it.”
“Well, that sounds pleasant.”
“Tell me about it. And when I get back, I’m going to have to redo everything I did this morning.” She pulls her phone out of her pocket- it’s got one of those covers that’s all little jewelry things and pink and glitter—it’s ridiculous and seems very Olivia. “Speak of the Devil, and the Devil shall call your phone demanding her salad. I’ll see you around.”
“Have fun at work!”
She laughs. “You’re cute.”
“So, Olivia?” Sean asks as the door closes behind her.
“What about her?” I ask, taking a bite of pie. Damn. She’s right. This stuff is incredible.
“She’s single,” he says, wiggling his eyebrows.
“Okay….”
“You hurt her, the Beats girls will rip your dick off.”
“Dude. I’m not planning on dating her, or dating anyone.” Lies. “Or having my dick ripped off, either.” Truth.
“Why? She not your type?”
Hell, if he’s asking if I think she’s hot even though she’s big, I might punch him.
Acosta. Calm the fuck down. That might not be what he’s asking, and you can’t just punch people for pissing you off. Not to mention these people you want to punch all have insulted Olivia, or maybe insulted Olivia.
“I didn’t say that,” I say, because even though I wouldn’t have thought she was my type, she’s fucking hilarious and smart and entertains me during boring college classes. Not to mention how delicious she smells. And how fucking gorgeous she is.
Asshole. No boners in a public bakery. Not cool, man.
“Well, then?” Sean asks.
“What are you, fucking Cupid?”
“Well, no, I’m not fucking anyone right now,” he says, and I chuck a napkin at him.
“That was terrible.”
He grins. “I know.”
I shake my head. “If this is what you do to Megan, it’s no wonder she wants to kill you.”
“Nah, she doesn’t.”
“Dunno, that’s what it looked like to me.”
“It’s a mirage.”
“I’m sure.”
