DIRTIRST SECRET
J Kenner
Release Day April 19
From the New York
Times bestselling author of such “racy, sizzling Stark novels” (RT Book
Reviews) as Release Me and Say My Name comes the provocative first
Stark International Novel—the beginning of the S.I.N. series.
It was wrong for us to be together, but it was even harder to be apart.
The memory of Dallas Sykes burns inside of me.
Everyone knows him as a notorious playboy, a man for whom
women and money are no object. But to me, he’s still the one man I desperately
crave—yet the one I can never have.
Dallas knows me better than anyone else. We bear the same
scars, the same darkness in our past. I thought I could move on by staying
away, but now that we’re drawn together once more, I can’t fight the force of
our attraction or the temptation to make him mine.
We’ve tried to maintain control, not letting ourselves give
in to desire. And for so long we’ve told ourselves no—but now it’s finally time
to say yes.
Dirtiest Secret is
intended for mature audiences.
Dirtiest Secret
What do you do when the one you want is forbidden? When being together could destroy everything around you? Do you give in to your desires? Do you run away?
J. Kenner brings back her sensational writing style in Dirtiest Secrets. This was an interesting read. I am not sure whether I liked it or loved it. This isn't sweet type of romance. Its a dark and thought provoking read.
Dallas and Jane grew up being best friends and then became siblings through marriage. Dallas' uncle adopted him and married Jane's mother. As they grow up and hit their teens, feelings start changing and developing. Both know they can't act on it, but they still are pulled together. When they are fifteen they meet secretly and are kidnapped and held for ransom. As the story goes on you will get flashbacks of their experience while they were held. You see how they coped alone and together, tasting the "forbidden fruit" that was each other.
As adults 17 years later, they both are struggling to move on. Jane writes stories about kidnapped children and secret vigilantes that try to save those kidnapped. This is her coping mechanism. But Jane also can't get Dallas out of her mind. She wants him, she loves him, but she knows she can't have him. How does she let go?
Dallas has set up a secret vigilante organization called Deliverance. If he is ever in connection with it, it could mean a lot of trouble for him, so he has rules set in place….No one ever knows who helps locate the loved ones, monies are wired to different accounts, and other safeguards are in place.. This is one way Dallas moves on from his traumatic past, his number one priority is finding those responsible for taking him and Jane. Dallas' other way has him labeled as the King of Fuck. He likes it dirty and fucked up. He dreams about Jane, about feeling her, being with her, loving her, but he can't give into those desires or else he loses everything.
As I said this isn't a hearts and sappy romance book. There is some explicit sex scenes that will get your juices flowing. This could be consider taboo, but I never felt like that, they are not technically blood related. However, together they might just have hope to get over their traumatic past. That being apart from each other is not working and is only making things worse for both. They both love each other and want to be with each other, but are scared to give in to their desires. Will they drop the imaginary line and cross it? Or will they go their separate ways?
There are so many secrets involved that I gave up guessing. This was one giant mind game, I will say the bomb dropped at the end, I was thinking, but thought No that can't be! I seriously felt like a mouse in a maze….I am intrigued how all of this is going to play out. Of course its a three part book, so I will be on the edge of my seat for at least 2 more. This is not your typical J. Kenner read. I felt the storyline was different and I wasn't initially sucked into their story, but she won me over. This is full of secrets, suspense and yes there are some hot moments! J. Kenner is branching out and I love when authors do that. It keeps me wanting more from them and not always reading the same storylines. I think when this wraps up, and everything is revealed I know that I will fall in love with her writing all over again. I am trying to figure out how these two are going to get the HEA, but I know she will do it or at least I hope... Plus, I liked that I got a glimpse of someone sexy named Mr. Stark….hmmmm wonder who that is...LOL
The reason for the 4 star rating is simple. I felt that the story was a slow build and I got lost in their moments at times. Lots of information is kind of thrown at you, but towards the 50% to 60% line, things start to even out. I realize its the beginning of a storyline and you need that, but it just felt slow. But if you power on, you will start getting sucked into the writing. 4 Sinful Stars!

EXCERPT:
Even by Southampton standards, the party at the nine-thousand-square-foot mansion on Meadow Lane reeked of extravagance.
Grammy Award–winning artists performed on an outdoor stage that had been set up on the lush lawn that flowed from the main house to the tennis courts. Celebrities hobnobbed with models who flirted with Wall Street tycoons who discussed stock prices with tech gurus and old-money academics, all while sampling fine scotch and the season’s chicest gin. Colored lights illuminated the grotto style pool, upon which nude models floated lazily on air mattresses, their bodies used by artisan sushi chefs as presentation platters for epicurean delights.
Each female guest received a Hermès Birkin bag and each male received a limited edition Hublot watch, and the exclamations of delight—from both the men and the women—rivaled the boom of the fireworks that exploded over Shinnecock Bay at precisely ten p.m., perfectly timed to distract the guests from the bustle of the staff switching out the dinner buffet for the spread of desserts, coffee, and liqueurs.
No expense had been spared, no desire or craving or indulgence overlooked. Nothing had been left to chance, and every person in attendance agreed that the party was the Must Attend event of the season, if not of the year. Hell, if not of the decade.
Everyone who was anyone was there, under the stars on the four acre lot on Billionaires’ Row.
Everyone, that is, except the billionaire who was actually hosting the party. And speculation as to where he was, what he was doing, and who he was doing it with ripped through the well-liquored and gossip-hungry crowd like wildfire in a windstorm.
“No idea where he could have disappeared off to, but I’d bet good money he’s not pining away in solitude,” said a reed-thin man with salt-and-pepper hair and an expression that suggested disapproval but was most likely envy.
“I swear I came five times,” a perky blonde announced to her best friend in the kind of stage whisper designed to attract attention. “The man’s a master in bed.”
“He’s got a shrewd head for business, that one,” said a Wall Street trader, “but no sense of propriety where his cock is concerned.”
“Oh, honey, no. He’s not relationship material.” A brunette celebrating a recently inked modeling contract shivered as if reliving a moment of ecstasy. “He’s like fine chocolate. Meant to be savored in very limited quantities. But so damn good when you have it.”
“More power to him if he can grab that much pussy.” A hipster with beard stubble and a man-bun wiped his wire-rimmed glasses clean with his shirttail. “But why the fuck does he have to be so blatant about it?”
“All of my friends have had him.” The petite redhead who pulled in a six figure wife bonus smiled slowly, and the flash of her green eyes suggested that she was the cat and he was the delicious cream. “But I’m the only one of us to enjoy a second helping.”
“All your friends?”
“How much pussy?”
“At least half the women here tonight. Maybe more.”
“Man, don’t even ask that. Just trust me. Dallas Sykes is the King of Fuck. You and me? Mere mortals like us can’t even compare.”
